Intern - US Payroll Tax
Resolve tax discrepancies by analyzing tax data and processing necessary corrections. Handle tax issue resolution including research and responding to tax inquiries or notices. Ensure Payroll Tax department is processing liability payments, tax returns, notices, etc., timely and accurately. Ensure team is following organizational procedures to remain compliant with federal, state and local tax regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Process daily payments for federal and state agencies. Perform daily reconciliations and correct processing errors
- File and pay quarterly/annual returns.
- Prepares or reviews a variety of tax related documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations.
- Performs tax reconciliations and determines liability for accounts, divisions or business units
- Perform data analysis to ensure compliance with payroll tax laws and regulations
- Research, interpret, and understand existing or revised tax codes, laws, or forms.
- Establish or maintain procedures to reduce payroll tax discrepancies
- Verify accuracy and timeliness of tax processes to ensure compliance with organizational polcies and procedures
- Resolve escalated issues with clients or internal departments
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of payroll tax and the regulatory environment, which includes federal, multi-state, and local tax regulations
- The ability to read, understand, and analyze highly complex regulatory payroll tax information.
- Interpret and analyze complex data, make determinations free from immediate direction, and ensure that payroll taxes are appropriately processed.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and adapt to fast-paced environment.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively and possess strong customer service skills.
Education & Experience:
- 0-1 years multi-state, multi-jurisdiction and high-volume Payroll Tax experience
- Minimum of one years of recent Senior, Lead or Supervisor experience required.
- PEO or related industry experience preferred.
- Hands-on tax return processing experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, federal, state and local wage laws required.
- MasterTax and Prism/HRP experience preferred.
- Required Licenses And/Or Certifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or Fundamentals of Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
